COMMUNITY BASED VOLUNTARY COUNSELLING AND TESTING (CBVCT)
The detection of HIV/AIDS, STIs and viral hepatitis cases is a cornerstone in the response to the epidemics. CBVCT has proven to be an effective tool detect new HIV, STI and viral hepatitis cases, especially in communities where access to health care services is limited.
In 2018-2021 AAE advocates for low-threshold VCT in community based settings as an adequate instrument to reach seemingly healthy, asymptomatic persons who are at increased risk of HIV, hepatitis C or STI. Since 2018 AIDS Action Europe actively collaborates with the COBATEST Network which is a network of the community based testing sites.

ACTIVITIES
As part of our core thematic area on CBVCT, in 2018 AIDS Action Europe launched its report and advocacy tool “CBVCT Services - Current obstacles and opportunities”. This report is available online.
This Advocacy Tool addresses gaps and challenges for the cross-sectoral cooperation in the field of CBVCT in Europe. This study assembles the opinions and ideas of different stakeholders who provided very diverse points of view on the subject, because they play different roles at the national and European levels and come from different countries. Their opinions and ideas, together with some extracts of the many documents produced on the subject of CBVCT services, were used as the basis to develop recommendations which serve as an advocacy tool for improving the actual situation.
Since 2018 AIDS Action Europe started actively collaborating with the COBATEST Network which is a network of the community based testing sites.
In order to improve work of the Cobatest Network, the Steering Committee was established for the transitioning period to put together the governance structure of the Network. The current SC will work on this task till 2021 where the next SC will be elected by the members of the network. Learn more about the COBATEST Network and become a member.
